On a physical level, therapeutic massage works to relieve tension from tight and sore muscles, breaking down muscle knots and assisting the flow of blood and lymph. Mentally, it can help to relieve stress and anxiety, and helps to prevent the build-up of muscular tension. Therapeutic Massage can help in the managing circulatory problems, sore backs, stress and general aches and pains. It can give the whole body a work out as well as focus on particular problem areas
CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle, hands-on method of whole body evaluation and treatment that may have a positive impact on nearly every system of the body. It has proven clinically effective in facilitating the body’s ability to self heal. CST often produces extraordinary results.
The CranioSacral system includes the brain, spinal cord, pituitary and pineal glands and is highly sensitive to emotional components. Any restrictions or imbalances in this system may directly affect some or all aspects of the central nervous system performance. These problems can be detected and corrected using gentle palpation.
The CST practitioner evaluates the patient by testing for tension patterns, and pathological obstructions within the body tissues and then releases any restrictions found. The result is an improved internal environment that frees the central nervous system to return to its optimal levels of health and performance.
Deep Tissue Massage
Deep tissue massage is designed to reach the deep sections of thick muscles, specifically the individual muscle fibres. It increases blood circulation in muscles that are underused and releases chronic muscle tension or knots (also known as "adhesions") and can also break down scar tissue. Deep tissue massage uses slower and firmer strokes and pressure that concentrates on particular areas and follows or goes across the fibres of muscles and tendons.
Deep tissue massage is often used for people who are recovering from accidents, chronic pain, limited mobility, recovery from injuries (e.g. whiplash, falls, sport injuries), repetitive strain injury (e.g. carpal tunnel syndrome), postural problems, osteoarthritis pain, muscle tension or spasm.
Hot Stone Massage
This treatment is so much more than just placing warm stones on the body! The therapist uses the heated stones as tools during a massage treatment. The heat from the stones penetrates the muscles helping them to relax more quickly. Cool stones may also be used alternatively if there are any muscle injuries or inflammation.
As with the other massage therapies, hot stone massage is associated with many benefits such as the easy relaxation of muscles thereby reducing muscular aches and pain.
Kinetic Chain Release
Kinetic Chain Release is a simple yet effective system of mobilizations and stretches, developed by Scottish Physiotherapist Hugh Gilbert, that brings the physical body back into balance quickly and easily. It frequently provides a high degree of relief and even instant resolution in many cases, from the pain and discomfort caused by conditions such as: chronic back pain, Fibromyalgia, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, migraine headaches, Scoliosis, teeth Clenching/grinding, snoring/sleep apnoea, bloating, Tennis/golfer's Elbow, behavioural disorders in children, weak(frequently sprained) ankles, chronic knee problems, breathing difficulty, chronic neck pain, Plantar Fasciitis, chronic Stress, menstrual pain, tired shoulders, recurrent hamstring issues, recurrent groin strain, tight calves, insomnia, wrist pain and weakness and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder(PTSD)
This simple procedure is revolutionising physical rehabilitation globally, often achieving complete and lasting results in one treatment where all other forms of intervention had proven unsuccessful.
Pelvic Girdle treatment (for Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction)
Emma Coxx uses techniques to establish whether the pelvis and pubic bones are in alignment and to check the sacro iliac joint is functioning freely. She uses mainly Muscle Energy Techniques which is a specific contract/relax type treatment with client pressure and my resistance to realign the pelvis, pubic bones and SI joint to rebalance and create space for movement.
This treatment is best done before pregnancy and 6 weeks after the birth, to try and prevent pelvic girdle pain along with gentle and specific exercises to hold the alignment in place and maintain function of the pelvis. During pregnancy exercises are given to strengthen the pelvic muscles and alleviate symptoms.
Somato Emotional Release is a profound inner journey promoted through “listening touch” bodywork.
This method seems simple; touch the tight spots, watch the breath, listen to the word, witness the body’s response. The client lies on a massage table, the practitioner uses gentle hands to explore muscle tension. The focus of SomatoEmotional Release is not on fixing a problem, but rather on awakening awareness through physical touch. Chronic muscle tension is often used as an unconscious defense or protection. At an earlier time in life some experience or event may have been too overwhelming or seemed too threatening, the body responded by creating a barrier or defense through muscle tension.
Trauma Releasing Exercises
TRE , or Trauma Releasing Exercises, was developed in the late 1980's by Dr David Berceli as a stress reduction technique. Increasing numbers of testimonials affirm that TRE is making a remarkable contribution to the healing of chronic stress and trauma.
The exercises promote the natural healing process in the body and are taught so that individuals can be empowered to heal and grow from within. Body based techniques help individuals to feel what's happening in their body, and to breathe into it and not run away from it. Thereby learning to befriend the experience.
The exercises allow the body to process unresolved 'Fight, Flight and Fright' responses that have accumulated in the body. The vibrational change that occurs in the body as a result of these tremors leads the individual to a healthy state of peace and calmness.
