Acupuncture

A Time Honoured Therapy

Acupuncture is one of the main treatments used in our clinic and can be used to treat in a wide variety of conditions.

For over 3,000 years, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has been using this technique to balance the flow of energy or life force — known as chi or qi (chee) — believed to flow through pathways (meridians) in your body

It involves the insertion of very fine, sterile, single use needles into specific points on the body which are chosen according to the current needs and diagnosis of the patient. These points are usually on the lower legs and and lower arms, abdomen and back.

  • Most treatments involve the very quick insertion of 10- 16 very fine needles which are left in place for up to 20 minutes.

Research studies have consistently demonstrated the effectiveness of acupuncture in providing relief for various ailments.

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), acupuncture has been proven to be effective in treating over 30 medical conditions, including chronic pain, migraines, insomnia, and nausea/vomiting caused by chemotherapy. Acupuncture works by stimulating the body's natural healing response, regulating the flow of energy, or qi, and promoting overall well-being.

Unlike many conventional treatments, acupuncture is a non-invasive and safe therapeutic approach. The procedure only involves the gentle insertion of hair-thin needles into specific points, causing minimal discomfort.

Acupuncture goes beyond merely addressing symptoms; it embraces a holistic approach to healing. It considers the interconnectedness of the mind, body, and spirit, aiming to restore balance and harmony within the individual.

By focusing on the root causes of ailments rather than just treating symptoms, acupuncture provides long-lasting relief and promotes overall well-being. This approach is particularly valuable in chronic conditions where other treatments may fall short.

One of the great advantages of acupuncture is its individualised approach to treatment. During an acupuncture session, our practitioners evaluate each patient's unique health condition, considering both physical and emotional aspects.

This personalised approach ensures that treatment plans are tailored to the patient's specific needs, increasing the likelihood of successful outcomes.

Chinese Herbal Medicine

A Pillar of Traditional Chinese Medicine

Alongside acupuncture, Chinese Herbal Medicine is one of the main tools used in the system of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).

Grounded in the belief that the mind, body, and spirit are interconnected, it provides a holistic approach to wellness and diagnosis and is an ancient healing system that has been practiced for thousands of years.

At the heart of TCM is the concept of Qi (pronounced "chee"), which is the vital energy that flows through the body. By maintaining a balanced flow of Qi, the body can achieve optimal health. TCM practitioners use various techniques to assess the condition of Qi and identify any imbalances or blockages.

  • Our practitioners prescribe specific combinations of herbs to address your individual health concerns. These herbal formulations are designed to boost the body's self-healing abilities and restore balance. Each herb has its unique properties and flavours, and the combination of herbs aims to target both the symptoms and underlying causes of the illness. Chinese herbal medicine is often used alongside acupuncture to augment its effectiveness.

One of the benefits of Chinese herbal medicine is that it is taken every day so works on a daily basis to help with the presenting condition and symptoms. Most commonly, the herbs come in the form of concentrated powders which are then added to boiling water to make tea.

Some common herbs include mint, ginger and cinnamon. All the herbs that are prescribed at the clinic are plant based. Side effects from being treated with Chinese herbal medicine are very rare.

Our Chinese herbalists are members of the Chinese herbal register (RCHM) and as such are trained to a high standard and practices in compliance with their professional code of practice and conduct.

To ensure that the herbs are of the highest possible quality, herbs are only dispensed from herbal pharmacIes that are on the RCHM Approved Suppliers Scheme. Any Company on the Approved suppliers list is checked annually by a trained pharmaceutical auditor to see whether it meets the required standards for herbal quality assurance as well as complying with CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) restrictions.

Cosmetic Facial Acupuncture

Revitalise Your Natural Glow

We understand the importance of looking and feeling your best. Cosmetic facial acupuncture offers a holistic approach to rejuvenating your skin and enhancing your natural beauty.

Cosmetic facial acupuncture, often referred to as “facial rejuvenation acupuncture” or “natural facelift therapy”, is a non-surgical procedure that has gained popularity in recent years. It involves the insertion of fine needles into specific acupuncture points on the face and body, aimed at promoting overall health and revitalizing the appearance of the skin.

The benefits of cosmetic facial acupuncture extend far beyond just improving the external appearance. By stimulating the body's natural healing abilities, this technique helps to address the root causes of skin issues and promote balanced energy flow throughout the body. As a result, patients often report improvements in their overall well-being, including reduced stress levels, improved sleep patterns, and increased energy.

  • During a cosmetic facial acupuncture session at Albany Street Clinic, our experienced practitioners will conduct a comprehensive consultation to understand your unique needs and goals. From there, personalized treatment plans are designed to target specific concerns such as fine lines, wrinkles, sagging skin, acne scars, and dull complexion.

The acupuncture needles used in this treatment are incredibly fine, ensuring minimal discomfort and a painless experience. The insertion of these needles stimulates collagen production, improves blood circulation, and enhances the flow of energy to your face, helping to plump up the skin, reduce the appearance of fine lines, and tighten sagging areas.

It is important to note that multiple sessions are usually recommended to achieve optimal results. The response to treatment can vary depending on individual factors such as age, overall health, and lifestyle choices. However, many patients report noticeable improvements in their complexion, skin texture, and overall radiance after just a few sessions.
